The Latest

My classes are challenging, but overall pretty good. Actually, the most challenging of the four I am taking is "Mind, Brain & Behaviour" (my psychology subject). I think it's because it's mostly filled with lots of statistics and students who are continuing the class from last semester. Go figure. Whatevs- I'll just have to work extra hard at that one to make up for my seeming lack of mathematical psychology knowledgy. Bleh.

I have a cold. An Australian cold. But I noticed that almost everyone else at Ormond has the same cold, in varying degrees of sick-ness. For example, my friend Sara is sick to an almost flu-like degree, whereas I escaped with a post-nasal drip and what the chemist in Union House calls a 'chesty cough.' *Hack hack* My course of action is Robitussen, maaaaybe Sudafed PE, and lots and lots of tea. But I'll get there!

At Melbourne Uni the way academics works (at least for arts faculty students) is that you have a certain number of contact hours per week (the amount of time you actually spend IN class), usually no more than 12, and then your readings/assignments for your subjects. I have 12 contact hours per week, which is a pretty good amount for an arts faculty student. Then again, students in economics/commerce or premed have about twice that. So I consider myself pretty lucky. What's also great about Melbourne Uni is that the only places they take attendence at are the tutorials (which are like group conferences at Sarah Lawrence, or seminar-style classes where a smaller group of students from the lecture review the readings that were assigned for the week). And the lectures are all recorded on the Learning Management System (LMS) website. So you can conduct the lectures on your own time from the comfort of your bedroom if you like. This is good for my friend Cara who has two subjects scheduled for the same time. She attends one, which is a film screening, and "attends" the other later on in the day on the computer, when it is more convenient for her.

How great is Australia!
How blessed are the meek!

P.S. It turns out I had my camera cable all along, so as soon as I retake all the pictures I lost they will be up quicker than quick!
